Casa Princess Arminda

History is the foundation of the future...

In 1404 a famous French explorer, Jean de Bethencourt, landed on the majestical island of Fuerteventura in the Atlantic Ocean.  Bethencourt travelled up into the mountains and built a magnificent church, a palace and a fortress in typical conquerer style.

Despite these buildings being almost completely burnt down during the moorish invasions, two historic buildings were successfully rebuilt in the 1500's.

The fortress built by Jean de Bethencourt, for whom the town of Betancuria was named after, has been passed down through the generations for the past 600 years.

Today in 2006, the 600 year old grand residence still resides with Canary Island locals, the Gonzalez Dumpierrez family.

Six centuries after its creation, this magnificent locale has been transformed into Casa Princess Arminda, thus beginning another chapter of history.

Casa Princess Arminda provides a unique culinary, musical and historical experience for locals and visitors alike.

Princesa Arminda was the last ruler of the indigenous population of the Canary Islands, the Guanches, during the Spanish invasions. Princess Arminda was famous for her leadership and warrior skills in defending her people until her untimely death.
